My partner is pulling me down, should I go?

April 27, 2011

Alisa asks:

I have two children with a man whom I love very much.  He has spent the last 12 years in extreme turmoil. I have tried to part ways many times, but continue to get back with him because I love him as a person. However, he pulls me down very much. He is mentally ill and unstable and refuses evaluation or any alternative therapy. He is depressed and very passive about his life. Recently, I was admitted into the University and I am planning on moving to another state in a few months. He said he wants to come and support us there, but I need a new start and I know he really doesn’t want to go because he has no drive to find work. He has a very kind heart, but does nothing for himself but work in a  liquor store. He is functioning at a very low vibration and doesn’t want to help himself. I have tried so hard to nurture his relationship with the children because they love him, but I am seeing how the depression is making us all feel low and down in the dumps. I need some wholesome advice on how I can work this out. I fear he should stay here and we should go alone.

Inspirations from Binah replies:

While your emotional center sets the direction toward love, which can sometimes feel like a random choice with no foundation, your mind provides the checks and balances needed to understand that love.  Language limits our ability to comprehend all the different types of love that can be experienced, making it seem as if the feelings we feel for another person outside of our family can only be categorized as ‘romantic’ or ‘friendship’.  The truth is there are many other levels, each one providing lessons and experiences necessary for your evolutionary journey.

After 12 years with this man, your mind understands all the pros and cons of staying with him.  If he comes with you to your new city, you will continue to repeat the existing pattern, for you cannot expect another to change.  If you can find acceptance, joy and growth in this pattern, then your answer is simple: he should go with you.  But if you continue to feel that he is bringing down the vibration of the entire family, then you must realize that if you remain with him, you are not only holding back your personal growth, you are teaching your children that this is the best they can expect out of life.

That being said, there was a reason you were joined together in love, giving you an opportunity to reach a new level of knowledge through the journey you have walked together.  Sometimes it takes Understanding in order to receive the full Wisdom of an experience and move on to the next.  Shift your focus onto identifying and understanding the love you share today, releasing the need to believe that it must be the love of a partner and opening yourself to accepting that this love may be a vibration meant to bring your children into the world and provide you with strength and compassion you could only acquire through your union.

In your quiet Sanctuary, ask your Higher Self to take you on a spiritual journey through this relationship.  Begin with where and how you met, asking your Higher Self to play the entire video of the last 12 years and pausing where a new lesson was learned.  Take note of each time you learned something about yourself, each time you shed a layer of your ego or prejudices or weaknesses.  Create this list, and when you are done, ask your Higher Self if there is still more to learn in order to find the balance between your emotions and your intellect.  Your Higher Self can tell you if this story should continue, are you ready to accept the answer?

Bring Crystals into your Practical Spirituality

April 1, 2011

As we cross the mid-winter point in the northern hemisphere, we feel the beginning of that familiar tug toward spring.  The days are getting a little longer, there is more sunlight peeking through and we all may be feeling ready to let go of the long winter, are you ready for it?

The last half year has been extremely introspective.  Like Demeter in Greek mythology, we have descended into our private Hades and explored the dusty corners of our psyches.  With a single candle in hand, we have been shining light on all those areas we neglected for way too long, finding understanding and acceptance where once was confusion and resentment.

With spring right around the corner, it is time to turn that candle into a giant torch and flood these areas with light and love.  It is time for Spring Cleaning; a time for new beginnings and re-dedications.  Say thank you to all the hard life lessons learned and release them, and make room for new love and passion.  Transmute unwanted energy and turn your body into a sacred temple aligned to your life purpose.

This work can also be extended into your physical home with a Space Clearing and Blessing, then tuning the energy with Crystals or other totems. We will be highlighting ways to cleanse and clear this April. Please enjoy our first segment on cleansing crystals.

Below are some guidelines that show you how to properly cleanse your crystals and just a few ways to work with crystals!

Enjoy!

Cleansing Your Crystals

In general, crystals take in and out energy continuously.  When helping us through specific situations, such as disease, a crystal may get clogged up with the lower vibrations it is tranmutting, hence the need for a routine cleansing.  We also want to cleanse a stone before we use it for something new.  This is done to wipe any previous programming it contained and align it with your new intention.

There are many ways to cleanse and charge your crystals.

  • Place in salt or running water, then charge in the sun for a full day.
  • Bury in the earth for 24 hours.
  • Place in sea salt water for 24 hours.
  • Smudge with purifying incense such as sage, sweetgrass or palo santo.

Before you place a crystal in the sun or water for long periods of time, do a little reading to make sure that it will not harm the particular stone.  Some stones, such as Selenite, melt in water, and others, such as Amethyst, can fade with direct sunlight.

With your crystals happily recharged with positive energy, it is time for them to begin their new assignments!

Working With Crystals

(excerpts provided by PeacefulMind.com)

Energy medicine is based on the belief that the human body is composed of energy fields. When the energy is properly distributed and circulating freely, the body is healthy. Imbalances or abnormal amounts of energy are believed to indicate an excess or deficiency.
Crystals and Gemstones are great energy tools. Many aspects of a stone come into play when we use them for healing!

Developed from many different generations by many different cultures of people, these remedies, crystal healing uses the innate power of the stones to work on many different levels for many types of ailments. These remedies have been handed down through families and tribes, teachers and shaman as are the traditions and recipes of any culture.

Put your crystals in a pouches and carry them with you.

This is one of the most interesting and oldest remedies. Usually a prescription of 2 – 4 crystals, these complementary stones are carried or worn on the person or placed in a certain area. This prescription can be used for anything from healing to psychic awareness, healing an emotional wound as in discouragement or sorrow, or bringing about such aspects as love, money, protection, guidance, spiritual attunement, strength or even addiction. Carry the stone in your pocket or pocketbook.365 days of Spiritual Photos: 2 March 2011

Crystal Extracts and Elixirs

While the methods used for this vary, a basic recipe is to place clean stones or crystals into clean, clear distilled water and place it in the morning sun through the day and into the night of a full moon for 24 hours. This allows the (male) sun energy and (female) moon energy to reflect through the water and into the crystals therefore charging the water with this vibrational force of light and color.  This elixir can then be taken orally to infuse your body with the properties of the stone.  Read carefully about the stone before doing this since not all crystals should be ingested.

Crystal Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is the use of water in any form in the treatment of dis-ease and was used by the ancient Greek physicians. Hydrotherapy and crystals have a number of uses. Crystals salts with warm water will relax spasm; therefore, hydrotherapy has been useful in treating such conditions as muscular strains and sprains, muscular fatigue, and backache. If your crystal can tolerate water, then bathing with the crystal energy is a great way to work with your stone.

Meditate with your crystal

By placing your crystal in your hand, on or near your body, you can enhance your meditation with the unique properties of the crystal chosen. Close your eyes and set your intention to tune into the vibration of the crystal’s energy. Remember: “Energy follows thought”. The imagery of visualization is very powerful! As you breath, you may inhale and exhale through the Chakra points. This will charge the Chakra and surrounding organs with vital energy.

By “laying of the stones” on the Chakra points or along meridians, you can boost your healing. While meditating, you work directly with the stone and ask it to balance the corresponding area, organs or emotional center.

Crystal Gridding your physical space

By placing crystals in divine geometric order, with sacred invocations, we open energetic doorways through which more energy and light can flow. The power brought in through this can protect, enhance wholeness, abundance, manifestation, and completion of all your desires and needs.

Those are just some of the ways to use crystals in your Practical Spirituality practice.  Do you have others?  I’d love to hear about them.

Need help letting go of past hurts and finding my positive self

March 15, 2011

From Claudia:

I have a wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children. I’ve become a very negative person reliving past hurts constantly. This is completely jeopardizing my relationship. All I want is to be a positive, happy person again. I’m destroying a good thing, but don’t know how to stop myself. Please can you help me stop the negative cycle? The constant negative thoughts…

Inspirations from Binah:

The wounds of the past can creep up when least expected.  They manifest in many ways, often producing anger, pain, anxiety, sadness and negativity.  Ignoring them only makes it worse, causing the wound to fester and flare up more often.  To find your positive center again, you must peel off the bandage and treat the cause of your hurt.

Unfortunately, we are often so caught up in the pain and anger, that we find it hard to stop the negative thoughts long enough to discover the appropriate healing method.  Before you can get to the root of your negativity, you must first calm the mind and flood your essence with positivity.  This influx of energy will give you the strength you need to complete the healing process.

When you feel the negativity overcoming you, use a hand mudra to focus your energy.  Mudras are a non-verbal mode of communication and self expression consisting of hand gestures and finger postures.  Often referred to as hand yoga, they consist of specific positions in order to channel unique combinations of energy.  Mudras are used often in dancing, rituals and meditation and symbolically express inner feelings and inner psychological states. They generate great power and energy at the physical and emotional level in the person creating the gesture and to on-lookers.

Gyan Mudra

Gyan Mudra

The Gyan mudra removes negative thoughts and brings in positivity.  It helps keep irritation, anger and anxiety at bay until you can deal with the underlying cause.  To create the gyan mudra, touch your index finger to the tip of your thumb.  The palm should face the sky (upwards), keeping the remaining three fingers straight.

Practice this mudra daily as part of your meditation.  You can sit, stand or lie down, holding the mudra as you breath in and out, allowing yourself to relax into it.  It is not required to hold this mudra for a specific length of time, therefore  practice it whenever you feel anxious or negative.

Once you have found some peace using the Gyan mudra, it is time to search for a healing modality to work through the source of your wounds.  If you enjoy working with mudras, there are many to choose from.  You can integrate them into a yoga or meditation routine for daily exploration and healing, setting aside approximately 45 minutes of quite time in the morning or evening to use these mystic hand gestures.  You can also combine mudras with other healing modalities, such as Metamorphic Technique.  This gentle massage on the hands, feet and face releases blockages and pains slowly, allowing you to integrate the healing.  Its energy can be combined with mudras to focus the healing on specific emotional and physical centers.

Whatever technique(s) you choose, remember that true healing is a journey.  Like any yoga, mudras are nature’s way of healing and therefore, the mandates of nature are to be followed. These are no instant pills.  While some mudras and healing modalities do give instant relief, for permanent and long term gains they should be done with sincerity and belief until you release and heal the core issue.

What can I do to recognize my next step in life?

January 28, 2011

From Maja:

What can I do to help myself learn to recongnise my next step in life? Can you actually meditate while you go about your everyday? Inspired actions, can they be as simple as housework?

Inspirations from Binah:

While many think of meditation as a silent, stationary exercise, there are also ways to practice active meditation.  Any activity can become a form of self-examination, allowing you to reach deeper levels of consciousness and insight.  An added benefit is that meditation in motion can be integrated easily into the hustle and bustle of daily life, therefore transforming housework or the walk from the car to the store into an opportunity for reflection and growth.

Your next steps in life are already around you.  They manifest in your energy field before you know they are there in order to prepare you for the transition.  As your vibration changes to match theirs, they reveal themselves subtly, allowing you to integrate the messages at your own pace.

To attune to this new form of introspection, start with walking meditation.

“When your body is in motion, it is generally easier to be aware of it compared to when you are sitting still. When we’re sitting still in meditation the sensations that arise in the body are much more subtle and harder to pay attention to than those that arise while we’re walking, This can make walking meditation an intense experience.”

Though you can practice inside your home, it is best if you can be outside.  Whether you are in a city or out in nature, the ability to move without end will give your mind the freedom to release.  At first, keep your awareness on your body as you walk with no specific goal in mind.  Tune into each step you take, feeling your feet connect to the earth.  Keep your eyes forward, using them to see any obstacles you need to avoid, but little else.  Use all your senses to “see” the world as it passes you by.  What does it feel like when the wind caresses your skin and the sun fills you with light?  Think about the smells you encounter and the noises you hear.  You are in perfect harmony with all that surrounds you.

At first, you may find the world a distraction, but with practice you will learn to tune out that which is not important, revealing the knowledge you seek.  Naturally, you develop a rhythm in your step, which mirrors the steps you need to take in life.  When your body is in sync with the Universe, the messages become clear in thought.  They may come in the form of shapes, colors, smells and sounds… trust that they are there and that you have the knowledge to decipher them.  Each step contains everything you need, give yourself time to acquire, then understand and integrate.

As you master this new tool in your spiritual toolbox, you will find yourself extending your practice out to other activities.  Vacuuming the house will become something you look forward to, since it provides several minutes of uninterrupted time in communion with spirit.  Other activities take on double roles, the external focus of accomplishing a physical task and the internal focus of your spiritual enlightenment.

Carry a notebook or recorder with you always to capture the messages that at one time felt so elusive and now effortlessly divulge much sought after comprehension.  In motion, your connection to body, mind and spirit grows, making everything you do an opportunity to commune with the Divine.

Is there such a thing as a real friend?

January 4, 2011

From MaryAnn:

I used to think I had many friends, but lately I am not so sure those are real friends.  I don’t hear from them for months and then when something goes wrong in their lives, they call me and I bend over backwards to help, but when I call them with a problem or just to say hi, they either don’t respond or are too busy to talk.  Do real friends really exists and how do I get some of them?

Inspirations from Binah:

The definition of “real” in friendship is as fluid as a running stream.  Each person will have their definition, one just as valid as the other.  What you seek is a balanced friendship where your definitions match, and that will require you to know what is important to you and act accordingly.

Before releasing any of your existing relationships, you should make a list of what friendship looks like to you.  Spend an evening alone watching movies that represent friendship.  You can watch just your favorite parts or the whole film, what is most important is to write down all the behavior and feelings you want in your own friendships.

Take this list and over at least three days expand on it based on your interactions with friends.  Did you leave anything out?  Are there things that are more important than others?  Remember that you can only control your own behavior, therefore focus your energy on how you want to act and feel in the relationship.

On the following Tuesday, set aside some time for deep meditation.  Prepare your sacred space, call in your Higher Self and create a red sphere of light around you.  Have your list before you and a clean page where you can write more.  Within the red sphere, ask yourself what blocks or attachments are holding you back from creating the types of friendships you want.  Explore why you keep attracting unbalanced relationships – what do you need to learn or release in order to attract healthy, balanced friendships?  Record all that you receive.

With this information in hand, you can work on what you need in order to heal these patterns.  This may take time and require external help, for there may be several layers to work through.  For each item on the list, when you are ready to release it, on a Thursday sit in your sacred space with your Higher Self and feel a blue cube around you.  Breath in the blue radiant light, filling you as if you were a crystal vessel.  Shine this light out from within you in every direction, extending beyond the walls of the cube in shades of blue and green.  Thank the pattern for its service and feel it transmute into pure energy that fuels your healing.

Repeat this process as often as necessary in order to remove obstacles and patterns that keep you from finding “real” friendship.  With each transformation, consciously ask to only attract relationships that are healthy for you.  Let slip the friendships that no longer serve and nurture the new ones that blossom.  Soon you will have a full garden!
