Can life be as glamorous as in the movies?

June 15, 2011
Getting some HOT TEA!

Getting some HOT TEA!

Sitting at a café on the beach looking out over the water JK said to me,

“Does perfection exist? Is there a place in the world that has all the good, but none of the bad? How will I make my dreams sustainable? I don’t want to live a dream for a short period of time just to be thwarted back to square one as reality strikes. I guess what it comes down to is that I am searching for sustainable freedom in the world we live in. Maybe I still want to believe life can be as glamorous as in the movies!”

There was a long period of silence between us after he finished. I was taking mental inventory, measuring my life up against the standard he had just created with his declaration. Knowing JK, I understand exactly where his comment was coming from, but did it also apply to me?

JK has fears. “Fears” is probably too strong. He doesn’t fear because he has decided that feeling is too risky in life. JK has… “blah”. At some point he decided that the chance of failure if he attempted to do something that could altar his life direction was too great so he shut down his emotional core. He is mildly successful, living an easy life filled with spurts of fun mixed with intense boredom — and that is just the way he likes it… most of the time.

JK has a steady job, a few good friends and a comfortable home. His best friends gave up on him long ago, accepting what they get. In truth, some of them secretly like JK’s attitude because it means that they will always think they are better than him. A harsh statement, but years of observation and chats with mutual friends has proved this to be true. Unfortunately for JK, this causes toxic energy that adds to the ‘blah’ and making him feel all alone.

In that prolonged silence, I left behind my thoughts of JK and compared his words to my life. “Sustainable freedom.” What a beautiful phrase. I thought about Timothy Ferriss’s book, The Four-Hour Workweek:

“…there is no need to wait and every reason not to.”

Lambrusco y foie gras con rocafort - 1 €

Lambrusco y foie gras con rocafort - 1 €

And that is when I realized that I *am* living a life as glamorous as in the movies. Almost seven years ago I left behind the corporate 9 to 5 job to follow my dreams. Since then, I have lived in various countries, worked with a list of artists and companies that continuously inspire me, taught in conferences and classrooms around the world, written a book and am about to embark on a new adventure living and working in a globally recognized eco-society. From Cirque du Soleil to Damanhur, I would say those are pretty movie worthy experiences!

Going back to JK’s comment, how is it that I am making my dreams sustainable both emotionally and physically? My lifestyle is unique and can be isolating and financially draining if not managed correctly. Is it just luck that I seem to find a way to create community and a way to sustain myself everywhere I go?

Anyone that knows me knows that there is one thing that drives me: I LOVE WHAT I DO. It is that simple. When I am passionate about something, I will work tirelessly. I take good care of myself, allowing ample downtime with friends and alone, but when I am inspired, there is no stopping. And in that sentence there lies the key: I require *constant inspiration*. So how do I find it?

Clouds over the mountains

Clouds over the mountains

Walking through the city late at night the other day with my headphones on, I noticed that without thought I was singing and dancing down the street. The same thing happens on the metro. I have also caught myself laughing out loud while reading books in public, climbing up gates to smell pretty flowers, randomly taking pictures of animals and objects, wrapping my arms around trees to exchange energy, staring out my window to admire the sky as I work, spontaneously hugging my friends… in short, inspiration lies everywhere when you allow yourself to see the beauty of the Universe.

BREATHE DEEP - Jasmine

BREATHE DEEP - Jasmine

So if I love what I do and am inspired by the world around me, then I trust that the Universe will provide me with all the messages I need to guide my life of sustainable freedom and allowing me to follow my dreams free of fear and hesitation. Every opportunity is exciting; every event a new adventure. So what if now and again I am thwarted back to what appears to be square one? I probably learned something valuable effectively making square one actually square 1.5, and I am confident that the new path will be even better than the previous.

So maybe that is what JK has really lost — his sense of wonder and inspiration? I hope he finds it. Life is much more exciting that any television show or movie when you surround yourself with people and places you love and support all the crazy things you do in the name of INSPIRATION!

I thought I learned that lesson, but I didn’t

January 6, 2011
Alone with my Friend

Alone with my Friend by Jody McNary

You are never really sure if you learned something until it is time to put it into practice.  I thought I had finally learned how to accurately read a person’s intentions from a distance, but this week I realized I haven’t.  As you have heard me say, I was not very popular growing up.  I didn’t want many friends, but I desperately searched for that select group of people I could be close to.  I was surrounded by cliques, but never seemed to learn the secret password to get me into the clubhouse.

Worse than not fitting in, I somehow read behavior wrong.  Someone would talk to me and I would think this meant we were friends.  What it really meant was that they wanted someone to listen to them while they waited for their “real” friends to show up.  I was, and am, a very good listener.  Even as a kid, I could see situations for what they were and provided very sound advice (I guess that is why I write a spiritual advice column now).  Boys, girls, friends, lovers… time and time again I would think I was close to someone that barely knew my name.

As an adult, this pattern continued until I decided that my emotions couldn’t take it anymore.  I started to pay attention to “how” people say things and realized that what I thought were signals for friendship were usually just signs for attention.  Wanting my attention is not the same as wanting to be my friend.

A friend will ask about your day and how your state of mind is.  A friend will remember when you’ve told them about a specific person or event.  A friend will make gestures that say, ‘you are a part of my life.’  So if I learned all of this, how did I mess it up this time (for the record, twice in a few weeks)?

The answer seems to be simple, I haven’t really learned how all of this applies to someone I haven’t seen in a long time.  All of my “training” has been with face to face conversations.  It is quite a different story when the only conversation you have is over e-mail or chat.  Here, the rules are different because you don’t have body language.  In the latest case, I thought there was genuine interest.  The person asked me questions about my life and told me a bit about his, but there was something I must have missed because after a week is has become clear that this person does not want to remain in my life.  It is sad, because I was really enthusiastic about getting to know him after a long absence.

I am still not exactly sure what went wrong, but my internal guidance tells me that it is more than something you read via psychological or physical cues.  A few days ago I started dreaming with people I knew as a child, but were never friend.  At least four people in my dreams were part of those cliques I hovered around, but was never initiated into.  In the dreams, a person who in real life I thought was a really close friend, but after several years it became quite obvious that I meant very little to her, was trying to get me to go out with a group of people she just met.  When she described the people, I told her I knew who they were; they were people I had grown up with.  Then I saw one of them and he basically looked past me like I didn’t exist.  For several days I dreamed variations of this theme, where these people would be around me, but never really see me.

Today, there was an event that could have been an accident or could have been a passive way of pushing me away.  Taking the message I received in dreamtime, I believe that the latter is the case -this person does not see me for who I am and I should not try to pursue the friendship any longer.  The spiritual message came through loud and clear, guiding me before I became emotionally invested.  Years ago, I may have continued to push for a relationship, only to end up in tears.  Now, my Higher Self confirms my path and I walk on by knowing that this was not meant to be.  Sure, I am a little hurt by the experience, but having clarity means that the healing process will be quick.  Besides, this may not have turned out the way I wanted it to, but I was rewarded in another way… a long lost friend, someone I know loves me, just stepped backed into my life.  Hearing her voice today made me realize that real friendship has no bounds!

What is my dream job?

September 21, 2010

From Perish:

Like many people in this economy, I was recently let go from my job.  I started looking for a new job, but I can’t figure out what I should look for.  People keep telling me that now is the time to find my dream job, but how do I know what that is?  Is there a “dream job” database somewhere I can look through?

Inspirations from Binah:

From the time we are old enough to talk, we are often asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For some, a job defines who they are (teacher, doctor, inventor); for others, a job provides the means to acquire what they need (money, time, skills) in order to do what fulfills them. And while the paths being traveled are quite different, they each bring a deep level of happiness and purpose.

Discovering your dream job is a multi-part process. First, you must determine what is most important to you in life. What are your dreams? What motivates you? What are you passionate about? What makes you happy? This search is internal, reflecting on emotions and experiences gathered throughout the years. To find the answers, you must look deep within yourself and begin to answer these questions free of the constraints of a ‘job description’.

Over the course of a week, carry a notebook with you to record the experiences that bring you a sense of purpose. Allow your meditative state to go beyond the classical position of sitting in silence and bring communion with the natural elements, such as sitting in the sun, walking amongst the trees, feeling a breeze or swimming in a lake, into your introspection. In order to fully experience all this world has to offer and how you are meant to interact with it, take this one step further and explore what man has made with the elements. Buildings, cars, textiles, technology… all that surrounds you came from Source, and your daily interaction with the material plane provides valuable clues to what path you must travel.

At the end of the week, go through your notes and organize them into lists of qualities or traits that fulfill what is most important to you. There is still no need to think about how these will become a ‘job’, that will come in a subsequent step, for now you must only concentrate on understanding what you want in your daily life. When you are done, go into meditation with your Higher Self and ask if there is anything else you should include. Remember to review each question to ensure you have answered it as fully as possible:

  • What are your dreams?
  • What motivates you?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What makes you happy?

With your list in had, there are two last questions to answer:

  1. Are you going to fulfill your life purpose within the job or does the job provide the means for you to fulfill you life purpose outside of business hours?
  2. What is your dream job?

I know a man whose life purpose is to explore the world under the sea and share his knowledge and experience freely to a limited audience. He has a 9 to 5 job that provides him with the means to travel to unusual sites, dive on the weekends and write in the evenings. While his job does not fulfill him, it provides all the necessary elements for him to happily work during the week, content in the knowledge that his life purpose is being achieved every time he swims in the ocean.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I know a painter who believes in “being what she does and doing what she is”. Try as she might, she cannot turn off being an artist, for it is deeply ingrained in her being. And while she feels quite strongly that her life purpose involves the arts, she knows that she was not intended to create the next great masterpiece. Instead, she has chosen to work for her local city government determining what neighborhoods would benefit from having public art and working with local artists to get them funding for their projects.

Step back into meditation with your Higher Self and ask yourself which type of job will make you most happy. Use Frankincense, Eucalyptus and Myrrh to raise your vibration to its highest levels and open you up to receive divine guidance. While you may think that choosing you job is the most important question to answer, it is actually ‘what type of job’ that will determine if you to go work every day feeling content.

Once when you have received your answer, you can move on to the final question with the confidence that you will find success in your quest. To discover your dream job, you will take your search out beyond your internal guidance. Using Astral Travel or Dream Work, ask the beings beyond the veil to take your list of qualities that fulfill your life purpose, combine it with your choice to either be your job or have a job, and provide you with what you need in order to find your “dream job”. You may receive job descriptions, companies to investigate or people to contact. Erase all expectations and record all that comes. Within the messages will be the database of jobs you seek.

And if you’re wondering how I know this will work… it is thanks to this work, and an enlightening Pegasus on the Astral Realm, that Inspirations from Binah was born.

Should you ever put your dream aside?

August 17, 2010

From Frank:

My wife and I have a good life. We have always been independent, each with our work and circle of friends. A few years ago she decided to open her own business. While I encouraged her, I have not been an active participant, working instead on my own dreams, but now it looks like the only way to make this successful is for me to work with her. This would require me to leave behind my own dreams for a time. It would not necessarily be a permanent solution, but I’m wondering if there is ever a time when you should put aside your dreams to follow someone else’s?

Inspirations from Binah:

There are times when in order to gain, you must give. In the game of chess, it is common to deliberately sacrifice a piece in the hopes of gaining a tactical advantage or positional compensation. A true sacrifice is made with an open heart, and while there is some pain at the loss, it is quickly assuaged by the love that encompasses the act.

Only you can determine whether now is the right time to sacrifice your dream. Relinquishing your current path in order to provide support for your wife is something that can open you to new directions and perspectives in your own life, but only when it is done free of anger and resentment.

To determine your inner motivation and whether or not this is the right path for you to take, you can use the Tarot. Shuffle your deck as you ask for clarity on whether you should leave your current work in favor of helping your wife manifest her dream. Place the cards in the following configuration:

            1
         2     3
      4  6   5  7

1. Represents your question: “Should you sacrifice your career for a time?”
2. Challenge for Passive Path: What is the real issue or challenge in not helping her
3. Challenge for Active Path: What is the real issue or challenge in making the sacrifice
4. Energy Pushing toward the Passive Path
5. Energy Pushing toward the Active Path
6. Outcome for the Passive Path
7. Outcome for the Active Path

Work through the spread, adding cards as necessary, when you are alone and free from the influence of others. Take the results into meditation, determining which outcome feels best for you and your family. No matter what you choose, remember that if the decision comes from unconditional love, you will continue your personal growth. You may even find that the best way to manifest your own dream is through this new work.

I feel things, but I don’t know what to do

June 23, 2010

From ifeanyi:

I do have dreams every night I sleep but the interpretation is always hard 4 me some times. plz do help me. again I can sense things before they happen, even know what other people have in mind with discussions. I feel them, but I don’t know how to go about it. Help me, I am seriously in need of your help.

Inspirations from Binah:

Being sensitive to the world around can be overwhelming at times. Every step outside your protected space feels like an attack of emotions, sights and sounds. Often times, while you feel something strongly, because it originated from another, you don’t understand its meaning. It is in these times when it is most important to filter out that which is not for you. Not everything you feel must be understood, instead you want to learn how to strip away the layers of noise to find the message of light.

Begin by consciously creating a circle of light around you before going outside. Make it only big enough to cover your body so as not to expend more energy than necessary. Within this bubble, set your intention to only allow in that which directly relates to you. Envision a giant filter that catches all the confusion and leaves only the crystal clear communication. Write down what you receive in all its forms, including drawings, sensations, sounds, smells, and so forth. Committing it to paper aids remembrance and allows you to capture emotions without the necessity of understanding. While your notes may not make sense at first, over time you will begin to see the patterns. As you acquire more knowledge, the patterns will fall into place, filling you with comprehension where before there was none.

This same technique will work with your dreams. Before going to sleep, set your intention to remember your nightly travels. Again, release your worry about understanding, your first step is only to snatch the imagery and convert it into this realm. Every few days, read through what you wrote, putting the pieces together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Repeating this process will add to your skillset and soon you will discover that what was once shrouded in shadows is now as clear as a summer day.

Providing Empowerment through Many Mediums

June 19, 2010

Bliss and Abundance

June and July bring many new and unexpected gifts this year. With each day, I learn that patience is one of the most beautiful traits we humans possess. It allows us to look at any given situation and dedicate the time needed to decipher the lessons and find the path to be taken. As a naturally impatient person, I am humbled by the many teachers that have so elegantly (and at necessary times, harshly) presented this lesson and patiently waited for me to see the Light.

As I sit before my computer busily writing what the Universe has so distinctly told me must be put to paper, I eagerly share my work with you through many mediums. I begin with my upcoming classes in S. Florida. For this visit, I not only expand my offerings to include a new DNA meditation and a talk on Practical Kabbalah, I also travel farther north giving classes in Palm Beach Gardens in addition to Miami.

How do I embrace faith?

June 10, 2010

From Michele:

I want to release my fears and embrace faith, but how?

Inspirations from Binah:

There are fears all around us, haunting our every move. In some cases they provide valuable information about what lurks behind an unseen corner, but in most cases, they come from a lack of clarity on what we are supposed to accomplish in this lifetime. Compound that with every negative emotion you have ever had, and soon your suitcases are filled with enough fear that you can barely carry them around.

Every day you wake up, open your eyes and look around at what the day will bring. In that moment of unconscious thought, you make a choice to live. And since that choice is unconscious, you forget to make the next most important choice… HOW to live. To release that baggage and live the life you want, you have three steps to take:

Go into meditation or dreamtime and explore what you are here on this planet to accomplish. Let your mind wander without bounds and list everything you love. Think about who you are today and who you wish to become tomorrow. Avoid censorship or concerns over what is possible, let only your most empowered self speak. Be patient and give yourself all the time you need to create this list. Once you feel that you have it, that you truly know what you are here to do, set it aside and take the second step.

Go back into meditation or dreamtime and explore all that holds you back from accomplishing the list above. Once again release all censorship and be brutally honest with yourself. This list is for you alone, so include every incident and feeling that comes to mind. Be extensive in your search for fears, but do not relive them. Write them down as if you were making an inventory before shipping them away.

With your two lists in hand, it is time to take the final step. Take your list of fears and find their antithesis. List, one by one, what feeling you would replace each fear with in order to eradicate it. You can create affirmations with your new words, embed them into symbols that you place in your home, or charge crystals with these powerful emotions. Pick any tool in your toolbox that will act as a constant reminder of the courage you now have. With that task complete, in sacred ritual, burn away all the old fears and scatter the ashes across the earth so that they may be transmuted into fuel for your healing.

With your final two lists, all you want to accomplish and your words with moxie, you have released all the fears and are consciously choosing to embrace faith… faith that you can accomplish what you want in your highest and best good.
