Tip for purifying energy preventing economic growth

From Rustic Tonic

quarterly newsletter by M. Powell

Spell-Breaker by Rakadim

This is effective for spells that prevent economic growth or stability:

Fill a small white cup (glass or plastic) half full of dirt and place it in the far corner of your bedroom. Pray that the earth absorbs any spells sent against you and leave the dirt in the corner for a week. After a week, toss the dirt out of the house through a back door or window. Wait 24 hours before washing the cup with cold water.

Repeat as needed; reserve the cup for similar purposes – do not use for drinking any more.

That Number doesn’t describe me… does it?

October 15, 2010
Numbers in transport

Numbers in transport by James Cridland

My mother and I get along very well.  Anyone who knows her understands why; she is kind, loving and generous.  And while Mom and I are extremely alike deep down, we are polar opposites in how we choose to navigate the world.  Where I am loud and open, she is reserved and quiet.  You could say that comes from her childhood, but I think there are other energies at play.

My mother’s name was changed somewhere in her formative years.  Changed is not exactly correctly, you could say that it was permanently misspelled.  My mother’s name is German (she has NO German blood in her, my abuela just liked the sound of it) and ended in a ‘d’.  Sometime between birth and marriage, that ‘d’ disappeared.  No one knows where or how, but Mom never bothered to find out where it went.  Even though her baptism papers were wrong, it wasn’t until my mother received her passport around age 17 that anyone took notice of the mistake.

So why does this matter?  It matters because it completely changes her numerology.  Your Name or Destiny Number determines your overall personality.  As described by Adohr Spirit:

The destiny number describes the tasks that you must achieve in this lifetime using the name that was given to you by your parents. This name, the complete birth name, symbolizes the opportunities you have at your disposal -your potential. It is your life’s purpose, spiritual mission, and your field of opportunity.  Unlike the Life Path number which reads as you are, the Destiny number more correctly reads as you MUST or what you can aspire to become.

8 / Numbers in a City: New Haven / 1997 / SML

Numbers in a City by See-ming Lee

I know what it is like to have your name constantly misspelled.  Living in an Hispanic community most of my life with a French spelled name means that I get lots of emails addressed to “Ivette”.  When I was a kid, my report card even came misspelled.  The difference between my mother and me is that I am diligent about correcting every person.  Hmmm…  Could my Mom’s missing letter be the Universe’s way of correcting a mistake made via my grandmother’s free will?

Since neither Mom, nor her family, ever thought of fixing the mistake, I’m starting think think that her modified name created some type of split personality.  My mother’s original number is an 8:

8: Material satisfaction, accomplishment; desire for success, power, recognition.

This comes no where close to describing my Mom’s day-to-day life.  Sure she wants to be financially secure, but she does not have the drive to do push for it -never has.  Her modified number (the one missing the ‘d’) is a 4:

4: System and order, service, sense of limitation; managing, working hard, practical, down-to-earth.

random.number

random.number by the.serial.chiller

Now we’re getting somewhere.  This seems more like who she is today.

In talking to my mother, I always get a sense that her life didn’t turn out quite as expected.  Deep down, she had the desires of an 8, but the 4 allowed her to put aside her own ambition and work in the service of others.  That’s not to say she is unhappy, because I think she is content with her choices, but at the same time I think she feels like she could have done more.  More than her Name numbers conflicting, I think that her Inner Dream numbers push and pull on a constant basis.

Her true name would have taken her down the path of:

You dream of being a leader and one who is in charge. You want to be known for your courage, daring, and original ideas. You seek unconquered heights. People may get a first impression that you are very aggressive and sure of yourself.

Her modified name takes her to:

You dream of guiding and fostering the perfect family in the perfect home. You crave the devotion from offspring and a loving spouse. You picture yourself in the center of a successful domestic unit.

And while my brothers and I love each other, we are not what you would think of as a “perfect” family.  We’re a disparate family unit, coming together only when necessary.  This is not my mother’s ideal vision; she would like to see us constantly visiting one another and having regular family dinners.  She accepts the reality of our relationships because that is what 4s do, but she does not like it.  The interesting part is that I think her original Inner Dream of being a leader colored how we were raised, creating our present family dynamic.  Mom may not have been a corporate giant, but she taught us to be independent, follow our dreams and reach for the sky – something she never had the courage to do.  That original Inner Dream pushed us out into the world, even while her modified Inner Dream longed for domestic bliss.

All of this has lead me to look at my own numbers more carefully.  What are the numbers that are determined at birth versus the ones I have created for myself, and how does that change who I am?  Numerology is an excellent tool for understanding your core being; another tool for the Spiritual Toolbox.  While it is important to accept who you are fundamentally, you also have the power to become who you want to be.  Whether you change your name or just adopt different habits, first give yourself permission to be “you”.  Look through your numerology, astrology and anything else that shows you different facets of who you came into this world as being.  Only when you know and love your true self, can you begin to become who you want to be.

From the pits of despair…

October 12, 2010

I’ve had so many major transformations in my life, that sometimes I look back and don’t recognize the person I once was.  I can remember the first MAJOR change I made.  I had just turned 15 and was going into high school.  I spent the summer in an advanced math class (yes, I really like math).  My school situation was kind of strange because I had spent most of my life in private school and only a year and a half before had I moved into public school.

I should preface this by saying I was a bit of an ugly duckling…  I was tall, overweight and had HUGE frizzy hair and acne covering all my face and neck.  I was constantly being made fun of in elementary school.  After more than a decade wearing a school uniform, it was a shock to wear “regular” clothes.  No longer could I hide behind the excuse that my appearance was constrained by what others made me wear.  On many levels I didn’t care what I wore, since I was fat anyway, but I did have some sense of style I wanted to portray.  I was a major rocker who only wore jeans, concert t-shirts and boots. JEANS and BOOTS in 90 degree Miami heat.  But heat or not, I loved my rockin’ uniform and wore it proudly.

So in the summer right after I turned 15, here I was doing geeky math for 5 hours a day in a school that was not the one I was in the year before, nor the one I would be in the following year, nor one that was close enough to my house for me to know anyone at.  Oh, and did I tell you that I was not the most positive of all people?  Actually, I was a card carrying pessimist about EVERYTHING.

By the end of that summer, I would make the first of several incredible life changes.  Thanks to a friend I made in class, I pushed myself to socialize outside of my comfort zone.  The self-imposed uniform made it easier to identify possible friends, but while I was always forward, inside I was fraught with self-doubt.

Here is where I have to call out another “unique” trait about me… I get along with everyone and no one at the same time.  Let me explain…  you see, I have lots and lots of interests.  I just love, well… almost everything.  That means that I can talk to most anyone.  If you have an interest, I want to hear about it.  I am attracted to passion, no matter what the subject.  The positive side of this is that if you drop me in the middle of a random group of people, I will probably end up talking to several of them all night long.  The negative is that I am not engrossed in one thing enough to become part of its “Clique”.  In short, people either love me because I can easily relate to them, or they hate me because I am not as devoted to something as they are.  I have been called a poser, shunned for not being “in” enough and pushed out of things I like because I also like its opposite.

While this may seem like a wonderful trait as an adult, as a child it was a nightmare.  Scratch that, it sucked as an adult too until I was able to better understand and accept it.  Less than four years ago a group of people pushed me out of their circle because while they could admit that my actions screamed I LOVE THIS and acceptance, my clothes and manner of speaking didn’t match theirs so they thought I couldn’t possibly relate.  It took me a long time to understand that one, and though I get the gist of it, I still scratch my head from time to time.

So back to my 15th summer: My friend Angela was Polish and blond and beautiful (I always have beautiful friends).  She took me to popular places and in one such place I met my first love.  Between him and Angela, I realized that I could be different than who I had been.  They never asked me to change, in fact they loved me just as I was, but I recognized that I could be better and started to slowly change myself.  I started taking better care of my skin and hair and noticed that behind all the baggy clothes was a big, curvy body.  In my eyes, that was the year that the ugly duckling started her transformation.

PANIC Disorder

High School and College each brought more transformations, of which you can read about the day I finally write my full biography.  I was still not the person I wanted to be, but I was getting closer.  After college I moved across the country and realized that as much as I love my roots, getting away from them was what I needed to forge my own identity.  But still, the pessimism haunted me.  I would sit with people and the negativity in my mind would blurt out of my mouth.  In business, social events… heck, even when I was talking one-on-one with someone, I couldn’t stop myself from saying something that I would later regret.  I would walk away feeling terrible because I didn’t really mean to be that harsh, I just didn’t know how to say what I wanted to say any other way.  I deluded myself at the time by thinking that I was just being a realist, but a true realist sees both the negative and the positive, not just one.

By the time I met my now ex-husband, I had it about 60% under control… maybe, 50%.  I was really working on this.  I had lost a chunk of weight, was keeping it off, and had managed to do pretty well for myself in the corporate world.  I wanted to be positive; I wanted to see the good in people and events; I wanted to be one of those people that goes around smiling and sees the wonder in all -but that isn’t me.  Depression loomed around every corner.  Where someone sees the sun, I see the clouds gathering.  It didn’t help that my ex has the most incredible amount of self-control, something I so desperately wanted.  I don’t think I could even put into words how disciplined he is with himself.  It is not artificial either, it is a natural way for him to be.  He actually thinks before he speaks… I was BEYOND envious.

But I kept trying.  I kept working on it internally.  Unfortunately, the way I was working on it was by getting angry with myself, setting unreasonable goals and generally beating myself up when I would slip.  I didn’t have any tools.  I thought if I could suppress it, everything would be fine.  But it wasn’t fine.  I was suppressing so much that I didn’t know who I was anymore.  I had absorbed all these traits from the people around me I wanted to be like and morphed them into a mess of negativity laced with sugar… YUCK!

And then one day the penny dropped!  I fell into a deep pit of depression.  And you know what I did, I let myself be depressed.  Yep…  I just went there.  I needed to feel it, I needed to know what it was.  It was here that I found the true depths of my faith.  In that abyss, I learned that I am the way I am, and instead of fighting it, I gave it love.  Every thing about me that I thought was “causing” me to be negative, I showered in unconditional love.  I let myself LOVE FOOD, and learned that it doesn’t mean I have to be fat.  I let myself be FUNNY, without cutting people down.  I learned that even though I naturally see the negative cloud, I can CHOSE to focus on the silver lining.  I had options…  all I had to do was choose them.

Sitting on top of GAZI won’t tell you that my path out of that depression was all roses and happy songs, remember I’m still a pessimist at heart, but the balance between negative and positive started to tip.  Where before the darkness would take over for long periods of time, now the happiness was firmly in charge.  I celebrated every little victory.  Sure there were setbacks, but instead of blasting myself for them, I looked at them as an opportunity for growth and flowed through them.  And when the tears came, because they always come, I let them wash away my hurt.

In time, the stretches of positivity got longer and longer.  Just recently I realized that it’s been a long time since a super negative comment inadvertently left my mouth.  There are people that still trigger me into a negative spiral, so for now I avoid them, but I think that in time I will learn what I need to protect myself from those situations, since some of them are great people that I want to be around.

If I had to pinpoint the one thing that turned it all around, I would say it was acceptance.  When I finally accepted who I was, I was able to let the negative thoughts come in so I can use my spiritual tools to transmute them into something positive.  You see, negativity has its place.  You don’t want to get rid of it all together, for we must accept the darkness in order to fully understand the light.  They should live in harmony in thought and word.  It was Ghandi that said:

Happiness is when what you say and what you do and what you think are in harmony

The despair at being someone ugly, inside and out, still comes, but the stronger my faith gets, the shorter my moments of despair are.  Lately, the fears and depression are fleeting emotions that last little more than a few minutes before I can work through where they are coming from and transmute them.

If you were to ask me what is the key to my personal success, I would say it is lots of acceptance and an entire toolbox filled with spiritual tools for how to build a bridge over that pool of negativity and find the beautiful lesson on the other side of the adversity.  I guess there is a reason why I resonated with Da’at so much when I first started studying Kabbalah…  it is through the abyss of hidden knowledge that I came face to face with my reflection in the mirror -and now I can truly say that I LOVE what I see.

I will let you in on a little secret, learning by reading books is really hard for me.  There…  I said it!  I prefer interacting with people or listening to a presentation.  One day in meditation, I was talking to my Higher Self about this, and I wondered:

Are there people that can’t receive Practical, Spiritual Advice from Inspirations from Binah because it is text based?!?

My Higher Self quickly confirmed this was the case and suggested that I heed the advice of my trusty production manager and start creating podcasts.  I dusted off my audio production skills, which had become very rusty after several years of non-use (and to think I used to actively work as a Music Engineer many moons ago)… and voilá: every Inspirations from Binah question and answer now comes in a PODCAST!

While I wait: Prayers of an Atheist

Programming the Brain through Prayer

My friend Xavier Frost is wandering the world on a quest to find himself and understand human behavior through spirituality and science.  He wrote a fascinating blog post the other day about the power of prayer.  After realizing that atheists sometimes pray, he wondered:

What is prayer and how does it work?

Using Gender in your Spiritual Practice

September 17, 2010

I read an article recently in the NY Times by Guy Deutscher from the University of Manchester about how language shapes the way you think.  <article can be read here>

So this got me thinking about my own language use.  Every time I speak in French or Spanish, I apply gender to all objects, thoughts, and feelings.  How do the languages I use affect my daily practical spirituality?

The Kybalion lists the Hermetic Principle of Gender as:

“Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.”

So how do I use them and what are Masculine and Feminine energies anyway?  Note: I’m talking about energy here, not physical bodies!

Using a very basic definition, masculine energies are those of force and action.  It is the energy that pushes you forward, that makes you passionately take an idea and run with it.  When you initially receive or apply any set of knowledge, you are using masculine energy.

Feminine energies are those of form and understanding.  It is the energy that makes you stop and think about something, developing an idea through logic.  When you contemplate or ponder on a set of knowledge in order to understand it, you are using feminine energy.

With these definitions in mind, you can harness the power of gender in your spiritual development.  From meditations to rituals, using mandalas, angels and more, when you consciously invoke masculine and feminine energies as needed, you grow the number of tools in your spiritual toolbox exponentially.

How do you tap into these energies though?  Here are a few practical, spiritual tips ‘n’ tricks:

Did you know that Sacred Geometries have gender?  For example, a tetrahedron is masculine and a truncated cuboctahedron is feminine.  This means that if you are trying to learn something new or get a different perspective, you can tap into the active, masculine energy of acquiring information through the tetrahedron.  Once you have the raw message, you switch over to the cuboctahedron to understand and develop what you received using feminine energy.  Through comprehension you turn intelligence into wisdom, which signals that it is time to switch back to masculine, earth geometry, such as a cube, in order to actively integrate this enlightenment.  Masculine to feminine, feminine to masculine… constantly switching between the two to create balance as you travel your spiritual path.

The right side of your body is considered masculine and the left side is feminine.  This means that if you hold a crystal in your right hand, you are channeling that energy outward through your actions.  If you hold a crystal in your left hand, you are channeling its energy into you.

In both French and Spanish, Acceptance is as feminine word, but in my experience, it requires a final, masculine step in order to be realized.  It is the feminine force of understanding that takes you toward Acceptance, allowing you to release your judgment, but it takes a masculine, active force through mercy in order to integrate your emotions into everyday consciousness.
Using feminine tools, such as a chalice or bell, in your spiritual work takes you to understanding.  <a Ritual for Understanding can be found here>  Using masculine tools, such as an athame or wand, you cut and transmute the beliefs you have identified preventing you from accepting.  With this step balance is created between the energies and Acceptance is actualized.

Practical Spirituality is about constantly modifying and combining the tools in your toolbox in order to unblock you when you are stuck or help you build a bridge over an obstacle.  When you need an extra boost, add gender to the mix and feel these powerful energies enhance your spiritual work.  Remember, when you are fully empowered, all knowledge, objects and emotions become spiritual tools, all you have to do is use them!

If you have any questions or would like more information, you have only to ask.  I am here to serve.
